UNTITELED 3 - CLAY & KOMBUCHA - 2026

This piece investigates the integration of kombucha culture — the living, gelatinous biofilm formed through fermentation — with clay, exploring symbiosis as both a material and conceptual process. As the SCOBY grows, its texture, moisture, and organic irregularity interact with the rigidity and porosity of the clay surface, blurring the boundary between the crafted and the living. The work remains in an experimental stage, allowing the unpredictable behavior of the fermenting culture — its expansion, its adhesion, its decay — to inform the piece's final form. Rather than seeking a fixed resolution, this process embraces symbiosis as an ongoing negotiation between two materials with fundamentally different life cycles.
